Kingston Ukulele Society

Do you live in the Kingston, Ontario area? Do you play ukulele? Would you like to play ukulele and sing with a group of other like-minded people? If so, then read on.

Kingston now has a regular ukulele jam! We meet once a month to play ukulele and sing songs together.

Where is the jam?

We meet at the RCHA Club, 193 Ontario Street, Kingston. Use the Ontario Street entrance and take the elevator to the 2nd floor.

(If the 2nd floor button on the elevator doesn't work, go to the 3rd floor and walk down to the 2nd floor. While you're passing the bar, ask the bartender to enable the 2nd floor.)

When is it?

The jam takes place on the third Monday of the month at 7:30PM. But arrive early for socializing and have a beer before jamming. Here are the upcoming jam dates for 2012:

Who can come?

Anyone who plays ukulele is welcome. All skill levels are welcome. Even if you're a beginner, you're welcome to join in.

What else should I bring (besides my ukulele)?

If you have a portable music stand, bring it along. The RCHA Club only has a few.

If you want to lead the group in a song, please bring copies so the rest of us can follow along. Lyrics with chord diagrams are preferred. (Chord diagrams on the side or bottom of the page is also acceptable.)

What happens at the jam?

We play ukulele and sing songs. We also share tips and techniques, and share our ukulele stories. If you want to perform a song solo, or lead the group in a song, you'll have your chance. Consider this a good opportunity to practice your skills in front of a very supportive audience.

How did this come about?

In the summer of 2010, I moved from Toronto back to my hometown. In Toronto, I very much enjoyed playing ukulele at the Corktown Ukulele Jam. Picture, if you can, 60-70 ukulele players playing together in one room! Yes! There's a lot of fun in jamming together on the ukulele! When we decided to make the move, I decided that Kingston should have a ukulele jam too.

What else should I know about the jam?

Like most other jams, GCEA is the preferred tuning.

If you have further questions, or want to get added to our mailing list, send an e-mail to hans@kingstonukes.com.

Finally, prepare to have fun!
